Southern California Regimental Encampment I
On June 21st the Southern California Regiments of Young Marines joined their fellow young Marines, in the Southern California Regiment on the Regiments first encampment. The units all met at the Temecula valley Young Marines training area and quickly setup camp as the night was fast approaching
,
,
. As the Regimental CP was setup, the schedules and meetings were in process for the adults as the Young Marines finished setting up their tents and went to sleep
. Revile was at 0630 on Saturday morning as the Young Marines were waking up and taking care of their personal hygiene, the Regimental staff started making breakfast
,
,
. While breakfast was cooking YM/1stSgt. Guiles ordered all of the units to meet and greet each other start mingling introduce yourself and meet new Young Marines
,
,
. The first thing on the agenda this morning was a Regimental hike (the Regimental Commander said we were going for a six mile hike). He only took us on a one mile hike out and back, when some Young Marines asked what happened to the six mile hike the Regimental Commander smiled and said "Come on you really didn't think I was going to go on a six mile hike did you"?
,
,
. After the Hike was done the Regiment was sat down and they were given a Land Navigation class by Mr. Siegmann the Regimental Executive Officer and Mr. Marquez the XO of San Bernardino
. When the class was finished the Young Marines had Lunch after their chow the Regimental Commander had the Regiment broken up into different groups so to units would have to work together. Some Young Marines were to go to the Land Nav Course, some more went to the Marksmanship course and the others went to the rappel site.
As the day wore on the the heat reached 115 degrees, Sgt. Sparks and Adult instructor asked if the marksmanship course could be shut down due to extreme heat and no shade the Regimental Commander made the call and the range was shut down for safety concerns. On the Land Nav Course YM/1stSgt. Guiles, Mr. Marquez, Mr. Sandler and YM/LCpl. Taylor all helped out in the Land Navigation course. RC Guiles and Major Smith from the Eagles Young Marines along with Mr. Dotson, CO Davis and Mr. Criske all worked on the Rappel site hooking Young Marines in and teaching them how to rappel. CO McDonald, Cpl. Chavez and Mrs. Rose-Bartfay all worked on the belay and safety observer stations below the rappel site
,
,
. As the day grew on the RC had a check done on the pool and when the all clear was given the Regimental Commander granted everyone one hour to play in the pool and cool off. All of the Young Marines started playing in the water and mixing the units up. as the day grew on and the Young Marines were back at the Camp Site Mr. Sandler, Mr. Criske and CO McDonald from the Wildomar Young Marines all started cooking the dinner. The young Marines ate their dinners and got ready for their Night Land Navigation exercises. Night Land navigation went on until 2245, the Regimental Commander called ENDEX (End of Exercise) and all of the Young Marines came back in. All of the scores were turned back in to YM/1st Sgt Guiles and YM/Pvt. Simms. Before the young Marines could get ready for some rack ops the senior Young Marine of every unit gave their report and heads up to the Regimental Commander that they were all good to go.
Revile was at 0630 on Sunday it was time to break down the Regimental Camp Site and eat breakfast, when all of the cleaning, packing, Police call, Head cleanup was completed. YM/1stSgt. Guiles called the Regiment to attention, when he received his report the Regiment recited the pledge of allegiance. YM/1st Sgt. Guiles then turned the Regiment over to Regimental Commander Guiles, Regimental XO Siegmann then called up CO Ramirez from East Valley. The East Valley Young Marines were receiving the Meritorious Unit Commendation from Division six
. The East Valley Young Marines were given the award for outstanding service to the Young Marines organization. After the East Valley award It was time for a Regimental photo. XO Siegmann got all of the Young Marines together and ready for the photo 'Ready, set...... Smile" said the Regimental Commander
. After the photo YM/1stSgt. Guiles posted back into his position and gave the Regiment their final dismissal of the encampment
,
. It was a short weekend but it sure seemed long because of the heat. All of the young Marines said they had a great time and a lot learned how to rappel for their first time.
